Many places proclaiming to be eco accommodation only one or two enviromental features. We have attempted to encompasses the principles of both environmentally-friendly construction and on-going operation – giving you the broadest experience of eco-living within a short time and the greatestopportunity to learn what you can do on return to your own home.
Part of the process of staying here involves guests interacting with the different systems such as power generation and hot water. A 22 page Eco Stay Guide Book is provided which describes all the systems and has examples of how you can implement in your own home.

100% off the Grid Living: with no connection to the national power grid, all electricity is generated on site by a combination of solar panels and hydro electric water turbine with water from a stream.

Biolytix Domestic Worm Farm: all sewage is processed by the action of the worm farm from a standard bathroom with no odour or septic tank requirement. Clarenden boasts the first domestic system in the New Zealand and the only solar-powered system in the world!
